Noah's wish is currently deployed or monitoring the following incidents:
September 1, 2010 2:45PM Hurricane Earl
Volunteers in Regions 3,4, 7 and 8 are on alert and have responded with their availability. We currently have sufficient volunteers to staff both shelters (Virginia and Long Island) should that become necessary. Thanks to everyone that answered the request so rapidly.
Right now we’re in the familiar hurry-up and wait mode. In speaking with National VOAD earlier today, they feel the greatest impact will be in North Carolina, with Earl losing strength as it passes over land there, but all it takes is a shift one way or the other to make a big difference as you all know. For right now will continue to prepare and wait to see what happens over the next 36-48 hours.
August 31, 2010 7:30am Hurricane Earl
Hurricane Earl, now a Category 4 storm, is racing towards the U.S. Earl is forecast to potentially brush the U.S. East Coast late Thursday, before curving back out to sea, possibly swiping New England or far-eastern Canada. The U.S. National Hurricane Center warned coastal residents from North Carolina to Maine to watch the storm closely."Any small shift in the track could dramatically alter whether it makes landfall or whether it remains over the open ocean," said Wallace Hogsett, a meteorologist at the center.
Noah's Wish has been contacted by our partners in Long Island and Virginia to be on the alert should the storm look like it is heading inland. In response to these requests, volunteers in Regions 3, 4, 7, and 8 have been placed on alert and volunteers are being asked to provide their availability to respond over the remainder of this week and into the weekend.
August 19, 2010 10:30am Quesnel, British Columbia - Incident closed 8/20/2010
The assessment team has completed their review of the situation in Quesnel and William, Lake British Columbia and have found that the need to establish a shelter is not required at this time. The team will spend the day in the area just in case something changes, but at this time it looks like there will not be a need to open a shelter in either William Lake or Quesnel.
August 18, 2010 10:30am Quesnel, British Columbia
Noah's Wish has just been notified that the Pelican Lake Fire Complex has flared up and mandatory evacuations orders were issued for approximately 1,500 homes in the area around the Williams Lake. Deployment Update August 11, 2010 1:00pm PDT Questnel, British Columbia - Deployment Closed 8/10/2010
Submitted by Mari Donovan, Lead Coordinator

All of the animals cared for by Noah's Wish at the shelter in Quesnel, BC have been returned to their homes or placed with foster families. The Pelican Lake Complex Fires in the northern part of the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) continue to burn, and evacuation orders are still in effect, so Noah's Wish volunteers are on stand-by should the need for an active shelter for evacuated animals arise. Even as the operation wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon, a family arrived with a dog and a kitten for sheltering; Assistant Coordinator, Debbie Knabke found a temporary foster home for them. The Alex Fraser Park District has graciously allowed us to stage our supplies and equipment at their site while the fire season is still active.
The Noah's Wish trained volunteers, as well as the many local convergent volunteers, pulled together as a truly cohesive unit. The needs of each animal were met. The evacuees were so relieved to have safe haven and quality care for their pets; the CRD emergency management was grateful to have the animal aspect of the evacuations covered.
Previous posts have not mentioned the contributions of Donna-Marie Cyr, a Noah's Wish volunteer in Williams Lake. She served as our liaison to the Emergency Operations Center, created and circulated press releases to the local media, which resulted in newspaper articles and radio interviews. Additionally, Donna-Marie designed and distributed the large poster announcing the availability of Noah's Wish services and seeking foster homes, supplies and donations. http://www.bclocalnews.com/bc_cariboo/williamslaketribune/news/100325329.html
Special thanks to David and Constance Dahl for allowing me to spend the night in their home last night. We spent a relaxing evening, sharing "war stories" and unwinding. This afternoon David will transport me to Kelowna to begin the trip home.
To all of the Noah's Wish volunteers who responded, to those who remained on stand-by for deployment, and those who have offered their encouragement - Thank You! The tremendous team of individuals who ARE Noah's Wish allows us to fulfill our mission - to save the lives of animals affected by disasters.
The Noah's Wish Animal Disaster Shelter in Quesnel, British Columbia has been serving families affected by the complex wildfires raging in Northern British Columbia since last Tuesday.

I arrived on Thursday, August 5th to find a well ordered sheltered housed at the Alex Fraser Park in Quesnel. This park is the designated animal disaster shelter and provides all of the needs for an animal disaster shelter - both indoor and outdoor arenas, plenty of corrals and stalls and a group of smaller barns that comprise the Fur and Feathers complex. These small barns adjoin via covered hallways and have built in cages that normally house turkeys, peacocks, rabbits etcetera during the fair. The cages are now housing 10 dogs and four cats. In the corrals outside, Noah's Wiish is caring for three horses and an donkey.

Local Noah's Wish Assistant Coordinator Debbie Knabke and volunteer Willow Eyford used their resources to pull together the supplies needed to care for animals. Assistant Coordinator David Dahl of Kamloops, BC arrived on Wednesday to assist with the shelter operations. Local volunteers, both trained Noah's Wish as well as convergent have seen to the needs of the animals, providing exercise three times daily, grooming and lots of TLC. Each of the animals has a volunteer (or two or three) who has proclaimed them to be their favorite. The families of the animals visit their animals each day and are so grateful for the care that their animal families are receiving.
